Corn is the most common food item that we see in the field after wheat. Well, there are many uses of corn and hence it is so popular when it comes to farming. Most of the regions including North America, South America, Europe, Asia Pacific, as well as the Middle East and Africa prefer corn cultivation. And now, Reebok made a special use of this corn.
Rebook, the well known company in the field of sportswear and footwear, has utilized corn in a different way. The company has uniquely and successfully utilized corn for making the rubber soles of the shoes. This step was taken in order to support the company’s initiative of Cotton + Corn. This campaign focuses on designing and developing the shoes from ‘things that grow’ rather from non-renewable byproducts originated form petroleum. The shoes designed and developed from this product can be later composted once they have been worn out.
DuPont Tate & Lyle Bio Products is the company that has partnered with Reebok. Yes!!! It is one company and two. Most of the people get confused and thing DuPont Tate & Lyle Bio Products as two companies!!! DuPont Tate & Lyle Bio Products is popular for its production Susterra propanediol, which is a type of rubber. The material is non-toxic, petroleum-free, biodegradable, and is a consequential product of corn. This rubber will be now used by Rebook for manufacturing of shoes’ soles. On the other hand, the upper part of the shoes will be made from organic cotton.
“Eventually, our main motive is to develop a wide range of footwear that are environment friendly and can be decomposed once they are used,” claims Head of the Reebok Future team, Bill McInnis. He continued, “We will then utilize the compost that is made from the decomposed shoes to grow the resources for the future array of shoes. This will continue our cycle making use of each and every minute resource that we have.”
The first Cotton + Corn shoes are anticipated to hit the market by the end of this year. Sources confirm that the shoes will be made available in the form of sneakers. Let’s hope for the best!!!
