Since a national measure against online pornography that was rolled out in April 2016, the Chinese Government has prohibited more than 2,500 websites. This was confirmed by the anti-pornography office of the country today.
Over 3.27 Million pieces of “Harmful Information”, including those which are considered “erotic”, have been removed permanently as of November. This was confirmed from the National Office against Illegal Publications and Pornographic.
The operation has targeted the use of cloud storage services and online streaming used to spread pornography. This operation was launched by anti-pornography office with the support of Ministry of Public Security (MPS), Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), and the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC).
The crackdown targets to create a cleaner Internet for young users by giving a powerful blow to unethical activities that broaden online obscene content.
The MPS has successfully chunked over 9 Million illegal messages, on the other hand, the MIIT made sure to remove 73 apps from the app stores for their NSFW contents, during the campaign.
The CAC has shut down more than 310,000 unethical accounts and chunked 462 pornographic sites. It has also granted restrictions on live streaming.
