The Swedish automaker Volvo has been constantly delivering its range of vehicles with more focused quality specification and features. Where the majority of the automakers are more inclined towards developing electric vehicles and many of them have already achieved it, Volvo has now come up with the commitment that it would be soon launching its electric car by 2019 which will be equipped with 100 kWh battery pack.
The announcement was done this week at SAE conference held in San Diego. The company had once communicated about its plans of developing an EV vehicle, probably in 2015.
This introduction of Volvo will be its first fully automatic vehicle. It has been in business with its hybrid cars, which include XC90 model.
To deliver a cost effective range of BEVs, Volvo is also developing Modular Electrification Platform that will enable the company to deliver vehicles ranging 100–450kWh.
Its 100kWh battery will enable the car to run over 300 miles per charge. It may be a high-end alternative similar to Tesla’s model S and model X. Volvo last year revealed that it had developed two concepts and claims that upcoming EV will be built on that concept—Concept 40.1 (SUV) and 40.2 for the sedan.
The previously launched XC90 has been positively accepted by the consumers and has turned out as a tough competitor in some market that too against Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV.
The company projects to build about 1 Million electric cars in 2025.
