Facebook is closing down its Notify app

On November 2015, facebook revealed an app named “Notify app” that gives updates about news. Using this app user could subscribe to specific “stations” from publications that send notification alerts throughout the day and gives updates of the latest headlines. More than 70 partners used the app to send users alerts about the day’s top stories, including CNN, Bloomberg, and Vox Media etc. But now facebook has pulled the plug on its Notify app.

According to the facebook, ‘the technology that powers Notify will be absorbed into other products’. Notify never caught on in the App Store — it was ranked at number 286 in the store’s news section as of June 1, according to app tracking firmApp Annie.

Facebook also mentioned that, “Starting on Wednesday, we will begin integrating Notify functionality into other Facebook products, like Messenger, and will be removing Notify from the App Store. Since launching Notify, we’ve learned a lot about how to make notifications as timely and relevant as possible and we heard from people using the app that Notify helped them stay informed about things they cared about throughout the day.

With more than 900 million people using Messenger each month, we think there is a great opportunity for publishers to reach even more people interested in real-time updates from their favorite sources.”
